MAUREEN hails from one of the oldest areas of Galway City – The Claddagh - and has been playing the violin since the age of three. From a young age she knew that music was going to play a major part in her life’s work and personal journey. She became a teacher at the young age of 22 alongside touring as a musician internationally. After holding a career for 16 years within teaching, Maureen had personal experience of ill health. As a result, she was deeply drawn to explore the connection between music and health diving into how music scientifically improves an individual’s health and well-being through various practices. She decided to undertake a Master’s degree in Music Therapy at the University of Limerick where she was awarded a First Class Honours in her studies. She has established her own music therapy practice and is now practicing as a music therapist in Galway city and county working with adult clients and children within the fields of mental health, intellectual disability, grief, perinatal and post-natal health, palliative care, well-being, and dementia. She provides group sessions and one to one sessions.
In addition, Maureen is a trained bioenergy healer. She holds an Energy Healing Diploma from the School of Light Education, which is an internationally recognized Certification in Energy Healing, accredited by the International Institute for Complementary Therapists. See Bio-energy healing page for more information.
